Beginning its career at the end of the year in 1930, Bakersfield's Fox Theater was first used as a cinema and live performance theater. The Spanish Colonial exterior was once mirrored by a similar interior design, but its insides were updated in the 1950s to the then-popular Art Deco architectural theme. Today, the theater is used for live performances by musicians and entertainers. It is located just two blocks west of the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History in downtown Bakersfield.
